This is the documentation for Domain Mapper a web application to track domains, registrars, domain DNS settings and send automated email reminders 7 days before renewal and on the day the domains are due to expire.

Use the links in the menu to jump to the sections directly.

Domains are often purchased from multiple providers, keeping track of where a domain is and its DNS settings can be tricky.

Domain Mapper solves this by listing all your domains in one place. View your DNS settings and receive reminders to renew your domains.

Getting Started

Register for an account

To use Domain Mapper you will need an account, you can sign up for a 14 day trial, there are no restrictions during the trial.

Enter your name, email address and choose a password then press "Start free 14 days trial" to have a new account created.

Verify your email address

Upon create an account you will be sent an email to verify the email. Click "Activate your account" to continue. Once your email has been verified you can then login.

Login

To login enter your email address and password. If you cannot remember your password click "Forgot your password?" to be taken to a Forgot Password page.

Forgot password

To generate a new password enter your email address and click "Send Reset Email" an email will be sent to you to continue.

Upcoming Domains

This widget displays domains expiring in the next 2 months, domains can be sorted by the domain or by the expiry date.

There search box can also be used to filter the domains. Only domains expiring within the next 2 months can be searched here.

Domains Registrars

This widget displays domain registrars with a total count of how many domains you have per registrar, clicking on the register name will take you to the domains page and will automatically filter the domains for the registrar that was just clicked on

Domains

Domains

The system can have as many domains as you need. The domains page lists all the domains in a table that can be sorted by clicking on the table column headings such as Domain, Expiry Date. Clicking the same column again will reverse the sorting order.

The search box can be used to search the domains based in the domain name, also if you have enough domains you can select how many domains to show per page, the default is 20 per page.

Clicking on "Advanced Search" will open more search options where you can search by Registrar, Registered Date Range, Expires Date Range and Tags. Tags should be entered comma separated also not tags are case sensitive.

When a domain is due to expire an email reminder will be sent 7 days before the expiry date and a further reminder on the day of the expiry date.

Checking the checkbox next to a domain will give 2 new buttons on top right of this box which are Delete and Export . Clicking delete will open a modal with confirmation, pressing cancel will close the model and keep the domain. Clicking delete will close the modal and delete the domain. The domains list will be immediately updated.

Add Domains

Adding a domain needs only the domain URL adding http:// is optional.

You can optionally add tags by typing in the tags box and pressing enter or , then a tag will automatically be created. The tag is editable by double clicking on the tag.

Upon adding a domain the DNS settings for the domain will automatically be added. The DNS information consists of the following

  • Name Servers
  • A records
  • MX records
  • TXT records

These DNS settings will be updated daily.

View Domain

Viewing a domain will show buttons on the top right to add new domains and edit the domain.

If there are more domains then the previous and next domain will be displayed allowing for quick navigation.

The domain is listed with its name, Registrar, the date is was created, the expiry date and any tags that have been created.

Further down the page all the collected DNS settings will be displayed.

Domain Tags

Tags are a great way to organise domains, multiple tags can be added to a single domain. Tags can be added when adding/editing and importing domains.

Once tags have been added they will be displayed on the domains list and the view domain page.

Clicking on a tag on the domains list will filter the domains list to show only tags matching the clicked tag. Clicking the Reset Form button will reset and show all domains again.

Tags can also be typed into the domains advanced search box, note tags are case sensitive.

Import Domains

Clicking on the Import Domains button from the domains page will open a modal.

To continue click select file which opens a new small window, find the CSV file on your computer you want to upload.

The CSV only needs 1 column which is the domain, a second column is optional for a comma separated list of tags.

Upon uploading the CSV file the a best guess will be performed to match the columns of the CSV file with Domain and Tags. You can then click on the fields and change them if they are not correct.

Clicking on Import CSV will then cause the domains to be imported, the modal will close and the list of domains will immediately update. Note the DNS settings will be set to Pending, a background process will start to update the DNS settings. This process takes a few minutes to complete, depending on the number of domains in the queue.

Export Domains

Checking the checkbox next to a domain will give 2 new buttons on top right of this box which are Delete and Export. Clicking export will export all the selected domains to a CSV file and will be offered to you for downloading.

To select all domains check the checkbox on the table heading next to the domain column.

Billing

Subscription

Whilst on trial you can subscribe to a paid plan, this can be done at any time.

All new accounts will enter a trial when created. The status of the subscription will be set to Trial.

Subscribe by choosing a plan and clicking Subscribe, you will then be redirected to a hosted checkout to take a secure payment. Please note once a trial has ended or has changed to a paid plan before the trial finishes you cannot go back to being on trial later.

After you have added a payment on the hosted checkout you will be redirected back to the subscription page. Now you can see the plan you have subscribed to and the status of the subscription.

You will also receive an email of the invoice to confirm payment.

Cancel Subscription

You can cancel your subscription at any time on the subscription page. Click the "Cancel Subscription" button a model will open to confirm, clicking Keep Subscription will close the modal and make no changes. Clicking Cancel Subscription will cancel the subscription at the end of the period. For monthly subscribers the subscription will stop at the end of the month. For annual subscribers thr subscription will stop at the end of the annual term.

During the cancellation period you can continue to use the system as normal. No further payments will be requested.

Once the cancellation has completed you will need to subscribe to continue using the system.

Invoices

The invoices page shows all the emails invoices will be emailed to. From here you can add multiple email address to be sent invoices to. The emails can be deleted at any time. Deleting all emails here will result in invoice emails being emailed to the account owner.

The list of all invoices are also listed on this page with direct link to the invoice document and download versions of the PDF invoice.

Swap Plan

Plans can be changed at any time, to change plan select the desired plan from the plan menu and press the Swap Plan button.

The plan will then be changed and a payment taken at the same time if changing to the annual plan, then 10 months payment will be taken, the reminding month will already have been paid and will be taken off the annual total.

If you are changing to monthly from annual the remaining difference will be credited to your account, no further payment will be taken until the credit has been fully used.

Card Update

To update or replace the card used for payment click the Update Card button, this button shows the last 4 numbers of the card used for payments. Clicking the button will take you to a secure page to update/replace the card details.

Users

Manage Users

The system can have as many users as you need. The user page lists all the users in a table that can be sorted by clicking on the table column headings such as Name, Email. Clicking the same column again will reverse the sorting order.

You can delete user accounts that have joined your team but you cannot delete the original account as this is the team owner.

The search box can be used to search the users based in their Name, also if you have enough users you can select how many users to show per page, the default is 20 per page.

Clicking on "Advanced Search" will open more search options where you can search by Email, Telephone Number, Mobile Number and select a date range for the date users have joined.

If you have invited a user to join, until they join you can sent them reminders by click the link that says "Resend Invite Email" in the action column next to the users name.

Invite Users

Users can be invited to join your team by clicking invite on the users page.

Next enter the name and email address and select the role/s hold shift and click on the roles to select multiple roles.

Clicking Invite Users will send an email inviting the user to join.

The user will receive the below email, clicking on Join to continue

The name and email address will be already filled in from the invite but can be changed. Enter the desired password and click "Invite Invitation" to complete joining.

Roles

Roles

A role is a collection of permissions defined that you can assign to specific users in specific contexts. Roles allow groups of permissions that belong to specific roles.

2 roles are provided out the box:

The Admin role has full access to everything where as User role has limited permissions. Multiple roles can be created.

Permissions

Each role has permissions that can be enabled by ticking the permission checkbox, when the permissions is not checked the relevant action will not be available and in some cases hide entire sections.
